Free Shed Plans And Discount Building Materials

Once you download your free shed plans and see what material you will need, here are a few tips to save even more money.

Consider using "rough lumber" for your framing. Rough lumber or rough cut lumber is lumber that has been milled but not planed. Typically, a rough 2"x4" is 2" thick and 4" wide. A planed 2"x4" is 1.5"x 3.5" and so on. Call your local sawmills or salvage yards. Ask salvage yards if they have any used lumber, you may be able to save substantially on your shed building materials.

When it comes to roofing, siding, windows and doors, a little shopping around can go a long way. Check classified ads under building materials. Ask at lumber yards about slightly damaged inventory or returned special orders. If there is a nearby manufacturer, ask about discontinued products or returned custom orders. They will often sell these quality items at a big discount just to free up storage space.

Ebay is a great place to find deals on everything under the sun.

A little leg work or a few phone calls will save you money. Do the labor yourself and laugh all the way to the bank.

Free Storage Building Plans

Free storage building plans from a selection of 12,000 are available for instant download!
Your plan is the first step in the building process and the better the plan and preparation,
the smoother the project comes together. And we all love it when a plan comes together.

As a long time builder, I will tell you that the devil is in the details. You get your plan. You figure out the required materials from the plan. You obtain these materials. You gather the tools and equipment needed to assemble your structure. Now you are ready to hit it.

This is where your level of experience comes into play. The lay-out is very important and should be as accurate as possible (forget about perfect). If you have erected buildings before, you realize how important accurate placement of the framing members (studs, rafters, joists) are in relation to the wall and roof coverings (sheathing, siding). Yes, there is a good reason for 16" and 24" centers.
If this is your first time, you will soon see exactly what I mean. Don't worry, most mistakes are easily corrected. The great thing about making a mistake and then having to correct it, is you are unlikely to ever make the same mistake again. My greatest lessons were learned by misadventure (I had many do-overs back in the day).

When you decide on your free storage building plans, return here for more building information and I would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have. I will be posting video tutorials, links to quality tools and building related content.
